Windows error 0x0000011b
Windows cannot connect to a printer shared from another computer. It started with Microsoft security updates in 2021 that tightened how shared printers authenticate.
How to fix it
- Install all Windows updates on both the computer sharing the printer and the one connecting to it. Most cases are a mismatch between the two.
- Restart both computers.
- Better long-term fix: connect to the printer directly by its IP address (Add printer > Add a printer using an IP address) instead of through the other PC.
- Last resort (IT only, lowers security): on the computer sharing the printer, set the registry value RpcAuthnLevelPrivacyEnabled to 0 under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print and restart.
Is it worth fixing?
Fixable. Connecting directly by IP address avoids the problem for good.
